The Girl from Everywhere by Heidi Heilig

My rating: 2.5/5 stars
The Girl from Everywhere follows the story of Nix who sails across centuries with her Dad, crew mates and friends. The ultimate destination of all their sailing adventures is to find a legitimate map that would take her Dad back to 1868 Honolulu where he dreams of re-uniting with Nix’s mother.
Sounds like an adventure packed read right? Unfortunately it didn’t quite come across that way.
Reading this book, for the most part, was simply confusing. I admit though, the parts that I actually understood, I really liked!
This book is also 454 pages in length which I felt was unnecessary because the story could easily have been told in about 250 pages.
Lastly, the ending was unsurprisingly underwhelming.
The Alchemist by Paulo Coehlo

My rating: 4/5 Stars
“When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too……
It is we who nourish the Soul of the World, and the world we live in will be either better or worse, depending on whether we become better or worse. And that’s where the power of love comes in. Because when we love, we always strive to become better than we are”.
Prior to March, I was quite possibly among the 5% of people on planet earth who had not read this widely popular book. Don’t quote me on that statistic by the way, it just seemed about right. Speaking of quotes….this book had SO many beautiful quotable sentences/paragraphs.
It also helped that it was a really quick and easy read . Lovely story. Great message. And I really liked Santiago’s character, the alchemist; and the crystal shop owner.
The Joker: Endgame (Batman Vol 2, #7)

My rating: 4/5 Stars
I believe my review on goodreads for this comic were simply the words: “SHOOK”. Will that still be a thing when I look back on my posts in a few months? Probably not. I see myself cringing already.
Anyways, what can I say, its THE JOKER. You either love him or you hate him or rather you love to hate him. And you hate him because he is just too brilliant for words. I am genuinely both scared and intrigued by this monster. I also hate him because throughout comic history he has constantly ruined my faves. (E.g when he paralyzed Barbara Gordon aka Batgirl? or when he killed Jason Todd aka Robin). I hate him. I love him. I hate him because he causes so much pain. I love him because he is the best at what he does, he is the ultimate villain, an unapologetic monster, a *bleep* pain in the ass!
The Sun Is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon

My rating: 5/5 beautiful stars
“There’s a Japanese phrase that I like: koi no yokan . It doesn’t mean love at first sight. It’s closer to love at second sight. It’s that feeling when you meet someone that you’re going to fall in love with them. Maybe you don’t love them right away, but it’s inevitable you will”.
Let’s just say I was a mess while reading this book. One of those books where you realize you’re not going to be able to put it down and now all your plans for the day have totally gone out the window. One of those books where you’re like, what even is a social life? Yes, exactly.
Let me just start of by saying, I was already impressed by Nicola Yoon’s writing after reading Everything Everything (which fyi comes out in theateres May 19th; here’s the trailer just in case you live in a pineapple under the sea; because that has to be the only reason why you haven’t seen it yet? )
Where was I ? Oh yes, Everything Everything was amazing but this..this completely blew me away like a category 5 hurricane with no casualties.
You will completely fall in love with Daniel and Natasha. If you don’t, do you even have a heart?
On a more serious note, I loved that this book focused on the dynamics of immigrant families. I love the diversity and I loved that it was able to highlight an important issue while still being able to cater to all our YA feels. I also loved all the glimpses into the lives of the secondary characters. There wasn’t a single thing I didn’t love about this book. It. Was. Perfect.
P.s while I was reading this book; I had music blasting through my speakers, low volume, playlist on shuffle and there were a couple songs that came on that just fit SO perfectly with certain scenes in the book /the theme of the book in general. Being the dweeb that I am, I took the liberty of noting these songs down so that I could share them with you guys. They would be so perfect for the movie (yes if you didn’t know, it’s already been confirmed that The Sun Is Also A Star will also be getting a movie adaptation, woohoo!).

The Problem with Forever by Jennifer L. Armentrout

My rating: 4/5 stars
One word. ADORABLE. This was my first time reading a book by Jennifer L. Armentrout and I really enjoyed it. It was beautifully written and just overall a lovely read.
The Problem with Forever follows the relationship between Mallory and Rider but it also touches on the issue of child abuse and some of the problems with the foster care system.
I don’t know what else to say, but you’re just going to have to trust me when I tell you that this was a good book!
Batgirl, Volume 2: Knightfall Descends

My rating: 4/5 stars
Okay, so before I start, if you don’t already know, Batgirl is my favourite super heroine in the entire DC universe. So if I come across as bias in any batgirl related posts, I do not apologize but I will completely understand if you take my review with a grain of salt.
One of the things I really liked about volume 2 was getting to see Batgirl and Batwoman team up. It’s something that honestly needs to happen more often cause both these ladies are badass !
So that’s it guys! This month, I read a total of 6 books ( 2 of which were comics), I hope I can keep up the pace as the year goes on because there are just SO many books that I want to read!
