So this month, I only managed to read 4 books. Took me a while to start and finish the last book because I was on vacation and it turns out that there is in fact little or no time to read when you are having fun in Vegas! Who knew ? haha. Anyways, I liked all the books I read this month, and I think you would too:
A List of Cages by Robin Roe

My rating: 4/5 stars
“It’s strange how many ways there are to miss someone. You miss the things they did and who they were, but you also miss who you were to them. The way everything you said and did was beautiful or entertaining or important. How much you mattered.”
This book will make your heart heavy. This book will make your heart warm. This book will make your heart pop, drop and..okay not that haha, but it will definitely have your heart do multiple somersaults and back flips.
I actually had to put this book down several times because I was too worried about ‘Julian’, one of the main character’s in this story. He is so precious and so special and so undeserving of any bad thing on this earth. The last time I encountered a character so precious was ‘Frederick’ from All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr.
This book touches on so many issues: child abuse, ADHD, Dyslexia; the importance of friendship and a good support system. It’s filled with amazing characters, except Russel (for obvious reasons); and is honestly equal parts beautiful and tragic.
Julian is so precious. Adam is such a light. And for some reason, I really loved Charlie (not initially at first because he was kind of an asshat in the beginning; wow I just said asshat, I clearly read way too many John Green books).
I’m going to leave you with this cute little Charlie and Adam moment because it literally made me laugh out loud:
“Charlie stands and places the baby in a little rolling crib, then he raises his arms like Frankenstein’s monster, or if he were someone else, like he’s about to hug someone. But if Charlie Taylor actually hugged me, it would mean the End of Days. His monster arms get closer.
It’s the End of Days.”
Ten Tiny Breaths by K.A. Tucker

My rating: 4/5 stars
The first time I picked up a K.A. Tucker book it was because I was looking for something similar to that of Colleen Hoover’s writing: New Adult romance with relatable characters and amazing plot twists. And so far I haven’t been disappointed. No NA writer can match up to Colleen Hoover in my completely biased opinion but K.A. Tucker definitely does it for me when I’ve run out of Colleen Hoover books to read.
Ten Tiny Breaths is a beautiful story. Besides the obvious love story that unfolds between Kacey and Trent; this book also highlights the struggles of PTSD and the importance of responsible drinking. It manages to sensitively convey the impact the tragedy of drunk driving can have on both the victim and the perpetrator.
My only negative about this book was that I could smell the plot twist from a mile away. Didn’t stop me from reading on though haha.
Simon vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli

My rating: 5/5 ginormous stars
THIS. FREAKING. BOOK.
There wasn’t a single thing I didn’t like about this book. My only regret is not reading it sooner. Why did it take me so long to take this off my tbr list? Why can’t Simon be my best friend? Will eating Oreos ever be the same again? Find out next time on ‘YA Contemporary has me SHOOK!’.
Okay but seriously though, Simon is such an unforgettable character, the entire cast are squad goals and I just want to hug this book forever and ever.
P.s here are a list of things I did way too much of while reading this book:
- Laughed
- Whispered the word “shook”
- Daydreams of Oreos
- “Omg Omg Omg”
- Smiled like an idiot
Becky Albertalli has a new book that was just recently released “The Upside of Unrequited” and I am really looking forward to reading it now!
Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi

My Rating: 4/5 stars
I rarely read fantasy but right after reading the blurb I knew I would enjoy this one.
My problem with most fantasy novels is that they can be so ridiculously descriptive, it becomes complicated to even imagine what kind of world the author is trying to portray. But thankfully, that wasn’t a problem here.
Everything was so easy to imagine. Peregrine and Aria are such simple refreshing characters and I loved every minute getting to know them. Peregrine..I really like that name. I loved getting to know Roar and Cinder too.
I need to get my hands on the sequel because Perry and Aria’s story is one that I would definitely like to keep up with.
