Book Reviews

March Wrap-Up 2018

I read 5 books in March, 2 of which cost me so many hours of sleep, but was totally worth it.

Next by Michael Chrichton

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes meets Black Mirror. That’s how I would describe this book.

If you like stories that have to do with science, genetic experiments and such, then this book is for you. Although, the plot was really interesting, there were way too many characters which sometimes made it confusing. The ending was also a little anti-climatic.

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

My rating: 4.5/5 stars

I must admit I was a bit nervous starting this series because of the huge fan base it has. Everyone seems to love it and I was worried that I would not, partly because Fantasy is one of my least favourite genres. And, also lets be honest, the cover isn’t really spectacular. I mean that font though?

However, once I started I couldn’t stop. First of all, I was blown away by the size of the book. I requested it from my local library and when I went to pick it up I was like huge mistake. The last time I read a book that huge was when I was reading the illuminae series; and that had lots of diagrams and text convo pages. This book had none of that, it was all words. But the story was SO enticing that before I had even finished reading it, I had already requested the sequel from my library.

Made You Up by Francesca Zappia

My rating: 4/5 stars

made you up

“Everyone’s interesting if you stare at them long enough”

This was such a wonderful read. I truly wish I could properly articulate just why I enjoyed this book so much. Zappia did a great job talking about mental health, bullying and acceptance. The pacing of this story was perfect and I look forward to reading more of Zappia’s work.

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas

My rating: 5/5 brilliant stars

Me after reading this beautiful sequel: Oh boy. I am HOOKED. I am now a believer in the Fantasy genre. Or more specifically, in Sarah J. Maas.

bowing

This was the most intense thing I have ever read. I read this in 48 hours. All 500+ pages of it. This was edge of your seat, table gripping, heart racing, mind blowing shit.

Also side note: I can’t believe the Fifty Shades series is considered an erotica when this exists.

Lastly, I just want everyone to know that I would sell my soul to Rhysand. That is all.

Sleepless in Manhattan by Sarah Morgan

My rating: 3/5 stars

sleepless in manhattan

At this point, I’m pretty sure I can predict how every Sarah Morgan story goes. Or at least what it entails:

– 2 people who are clearly attracted to each other
– One of them is usually in denial about their feelings
– Or One of them thinks they have too many issues & that the other person is better off
– Lots of sexual tension & then most times followed by lots of sex
– Always ends in a marriage proposal. (apparently people in Sarah Morgan’s world don’t know how to just date for a while, they jump straight to marriage).

Why do I continue to read such predictable stories you ask? I don’t know. Must be some sort of guilty pleasure. It’s also the perfect light read, especially after reading something as intense as A Court of Mist and Fury!!

Sorry for the short reviews this month, April’s will be better 🙂
