“Many poets and sages throughout the ages have observed that true happiness is found in simple, seemingly unremarkable things. Most people in their restless search for something significant to happen to them, continuously miss the insignificant, which may not be insignificant at all.”
A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose
This is a great book for introspection. It really focuses on how to be present, how to be aware of your thoughts, how to be intentional with your actions and reactions. It makes you reassess what you give meaning to, what you allow to control your emotions and essentially your life. There were definitely some parts that I had to re-read to fully grasp what Tolle was trying to convey but once I understood, it all made sense.
So let me backtrack a bit, the only reason this book is able to teach you HOW to “be” all these things, is because Tolle first addresses the WHY. Why is it so easy to not be present, why are we constantly looking to the future or reliving the past rather than being focused on the here and now, why do certain people cause us to react in a certain way etc. Understanding the “why” is key to knowing the “how”.
If you read this book with an open mind and actively practice the “teachings” from these chapters you definitely finish with a renewed sense of purpose and acceptance. I have lots of pages highlighted because there are many parts I see myself going back to but it would really be helpful to have this broken down into a devotional type format lol.
I’d recommend this to anyone on a personal growth journey or anyone who enjoys books focused on self/habit improvement.
