Review: Wildfire by Hannah Grace

My rating: 5/5 stars

I was stifling giggles and kicking my feet while reading this one

After a spicy one-night stand, college students Russ & Aurora go their separate ways. But they’re surprised to bump into each other on the first day of summer camp where they’ll be working as counselors for the whole summer. And of course, the one rule of summer camp that absolutely cannot be broken? “NO STAFF FRATERNIZING”.

But with that unforgettable one-night stand still on their minds, how can Russ and Aurora possibly stay away from each other? I gotta give it to them for trying.

While the blossoming romance was obviously a huge and exciting plot point, I really enjoyed how the story also explored their respective complicated family relationships. Both our main characters have major daddy issues. Russ’s father is a gambling addict who has consistently put Russ in uncomfortable positions and always made him feel like a failure. Aurora’s dad is this super rich owner of a formula one racing team who pretends she doesn’t exist. He only has time for his new girlfriend and step-daughter. This neglect from her Dad has led to Aurora acting out her whole life just to get a smidge of his attention.

This entire story was so good from the jump that I kept waiting for the shoe to drop. I kept waiting for a cheap miscommunication/conflict scene that would derail the whole book. But every time I thought it was about to happen, it didn’t. Instead we got to see two characters find genuine comfort in each other, learn how to set boundaries, communicate, learn to trust and be open.

I’m so glad I started off October with this one. The banter, the smut, loveable characters, the growth?? Such a well-rounded story, I’m obsessed!
